Being raised in an orthodox middle-class family of Uttar Pradesh (the UP) I had always seen the duality implicated by the society of being a girl.
Set aside the social barriers, here are the top 10 reasons why I love being a woman.
1. Being a mother
Nurturing a life in her womb for nine months, and bringing it to the world, is the greatest honour bestowed upon womankind. The overwhelming joy of creating a new life indemnifies for the excruciating labour pains.
2. Challenges make me stronger
Be it physical phenomena like periods, or the societal norms, our life is very challenging. But the struggles, physical or social, make us stronger and bring out the best within us. Undoubtedly, the gold is tested in fire and a well-cut diamond has the perfect radiance.
3. Ability to pacify loved ones
Women have this special power of melting the hearts of their loved ones, be it a strict father, brother or husband. The reason why the daughters are sent to placate their fathers when they are in bad mood.
4. We can express our emotions freely
Society is very atrocious when it comes to men who are not even allowed to shed a drop of tear without being called ‘unmanly’. So, it’s a relief for the women as the society never restricted their tears or emotional side to be hidden.
5. No restrictions on the genre of outfits
Imagine a man walking on the streets wearing a short skirt, or a saree, wearing high heels! You’ll burst out laughing, or some elite protectors of traditions would end up calling the cops or a mental asylum for that poor guy. It is because the society is obsessed with the notion that men can’t look feminine. But for us, we can wear saree as well as jeans or pants, boots or heels, without grabbing the attention for being “manly”. This gives great respite to women from the ever- judgmental society.
6. We are more responsible
Believe it or not, women know and fulfil their responsibilities in a better way than men. Isn’t it an honour to be entrusted with some complicated tasks.
7. We are more organized
Have a look at any household. Women are much more organized, disciplined and sincere in her work than men. From meticulously arranging her wardrobe to neatly managing the kitchen, nobody can beat a woman. And you’ll find everything in its proper place once a woman takes charge of the things.
8. I can take more time for grooming up
We are permitted to take more time to decide our outfits and ensemble and doing our hair and makeup. Though very much time taking, the results are worth it, with the compliments being showered upon us at every occasion.
9. I am not confused, I am very selective
For men, it’s all pink and red, dark or light. But women know the difference between fuchsia, magenta and hot pink, or crimson, scarlet and wine red. So technically, our wide knowledge makes us more selective while shopping, as we never settle for anything less than the best.
10. I can expect a lot of pampering
A woman’s expectation to be pampered and spoiled seems more legit. Moreover, in a romantic relationship, we can expect our partners to make the first move, while we sit back and enjoy the wait.
Isn’t it beautiful being a woman? I can add a lot more, but these points are more than enough to elaborate why I feel privileged being born as a woman.
